AMC and Saturday Night Fever star Karen Lynn Gorney says her temperature rises when she doesn't get a good night's sleep. "I just spent 24 hours on the set and then slept for 14 hours," says the actress, who has returned to AMC as Tara after an 18-year absence. "I'm usually a good sleeper," she says. "I can sleep anytime, espacially on stage sets! But when I can't sleep, I'll take a hot bath, with the water as hot as I can stand it, and drink a glass of warm skim milk. I also toss and turn when I'm asleep, " she says. "It's like a dance - I'm all over the bed."
Karen, who lives in a New York apartment with her pianist husband Mark Toback, sleeps in a queen-sized bed with a very firm mattress.
She calls her bedroom decor "minimalist"- dark furniture, a white rug and Impressionist oil paintings on the walls. She also insists on solid-colored sheets. "I hate sheets with patterns, " she reveals. "They disrupt my sleep, they're too busy."
She usually gets to bed by 7 p.m. on work nights, by 10 on her days off. She dons a T-shirt and tights and reads herself to sleep, says the Anne Rice fan.
"During the week, I'll set my alarm clock for 6 a.m., but on weekends, I'll stay in bed until 9, "she says. "I only use one big firm pillow and several layers of blankets. When the weather is pleasant, I'll open the bedroom windows. And I keep my bedroom door open so my cats, El Gato(...) and 4-month old kittens Buddha and Space Cadet can come and go all night long. The cats are a good barometer of our mood," she points out. "When we're calm, they're calm. But when there's agitation, the cats are a reflection."
